Days of co-creation and user experience – Part II

In a previous post (“Days of Co-creation and user experience”),I wrote “There’s no stopping this now”. I was talking about the issue of improving projects by using actions related with user experience, design thinking and trend analysis and how to combine them inside some given projects. Well, it seems I was right and here you have a taste of a series of actions I’ve been working on.

First, I’ve been invited to give two courses on Design Thinking by the Service of Community Action and Citizenship (Diputació de Barcelona), and then, I’ve been invited to join a special action done at the Fab Lab “Ateneu de Fabricació de Ciutat Meridiana” (invited by Barcelona Activa).

All of these actions have been focused on issues ranging from the application of design thinking and creative techniques in the fields of employment, new technologies (in a very specific case, focusing on digital manufacturing) to the application of both design thinking processes and participatory citizenship.

The key issues of both projects lie in the ability to solve problems, the awareness of different points of view and the involvement of the largest number of possible stakeholders. Not only that but also those key issues must be aligned with the understanding that all the changes begin with the user experience.

On one hand, both cases validate this search for new ways of working in a more creative, open and multidisciplinary way, on the other, this new way of doing things must be supported by a rigorous analysis of the context and users, in order to facilitate the knowledge and technology transfer.

Again, the main pillars, which support this way of doing things, are:

1) The user experience;

2) The context of application of these new methodologies;

3) The importance of a proper segmentation and an accurate social analysis in order to improve the knowledge and technology transfer;

4) And, last but not least, the importance of something I read long time ago:

… in order for us to truly create and contribute to the world, we have to be able to connect countless dots, to cross-pollinate ideas from a wealth of disciplines, to combine and recombine these pieces and build new castles.”
